About this Research Topic
Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) has a high incidence rate in adolescents and adults, and its core symptoms are attention deficit and hyperactivity-impulsivity. ADHD symptoms cause a series of problems to the individual's academic performance, work, and daily life. Similarly, Internet addiction disorder (IAD) is also very common and is still on the rise. It has become a major problem that could severely endanger individual physical and mental health.
Factors contributing to the occurrence and development of ADHD and Internet addiction include neurophysiological characteristics, cognitive functions, family and social environment, etc. But the psychological mechanism and influencing factors between ADHD and Internet addiction need to be further explored. In addition, ADHD and Internet addiction disorder correlate with each other, and the comorbidity is very high, which is not accidental. The mechanism of interaction between the two disorders is worth further exploration. Executive dysfunction, dysregulation of motivational style, social and environmental factors, and neurobiological factors may be the associated factors leading to the co-occurrence of the two disorders. Corresponding psychological intervention services should be based on these problems. Interventions can be implemented in families, schools, and medical and health institutions. Practitioners from psychiatry, psychology, cognitive neuroscience, and education can collaborate in research and clinical practice. How to develop positive clinical interventions based on the psychological characteristics of the two disorders will be a very valuable application field.
The goal of this research topic is to collect important research findings exploring the psychological mechanisms of ADHD and Internet addiction or their mutual influence to further clarify the core cognitive deficits and psychological environmental factors affecting ADHD and Internet addiction, as well as the important potential mechanisms leading to the combination of ADHD and IAD. We also look forward to seeing research on effective clinical interventions for ADHD and/or Internet addiction in families, schools, and healthcare Settings.
Research focus includes:
1. ADHD cognitive deficits, psychological and behavioral characteristics, family and school functions, and other possible influencing factors
2. IAD cognitive deficits, psychological and behavioral characteristics, family and school functions, and other possible influencing factors
3. Inter-relationship between ADHD and IAD
4. Neural mechanisms and brain plasticity of specific function deficits in ADHD and IAD
5. The influence of social and cultural factors on ADHD and IAD
6. Up-to-date assessment and diagnostic tools for ADHD and IAD
7. ADHD, IAD treatment training, and psychological intervention
8. Progress in the general development of multidimensional interventions for ADHD and IAD
9. Symptoms, assessment, and intervention of ADHD and IAD in different cultural backgrounds
10. Differences in various ADHD and IAD subtypes
